Results of Your Colon Cancer Screening
Unlike before your colonoscopy, our board-certified team of GI specialists will now have a better assessment of your risk for colon cancer. We will also be able to identify the cause of GI issues such as bleeding, abdominal pain, and changes in bowel habits.
After the procedure is complete, your gastroenterologist will sit down with you to discuss the results of the test and whether further care is required. However, if your colonoscopy included a biopsy, the surgeon may need to wait for a pathologist to review the results before deciding if follow-up testing or treatment is necessary.

Recovery Time after a Screening Procedure
Colonoscopy is a relatively simple procedure, and most patients feel fine after the exam has been completed. However, our caring staff will be available to address any issues or concerns you may have after your colonoscopy.
Before you are discharged from our Beverly Hills facility, you will be given after-care instructions. Because you were under sedation, doctors will advise you not to drive or operate other heavy machinery that day.
Although colonoscopy is a simple procedure for most patients, there is a small chance that complications like tearing or bleeding may occur. Our GI specialists will advise you to be on the lookout for any of the following symptoms: chills, fever, excessive bleeding, vomiting, or severe bloating. In the unlikely event that you experience any of these symptoms, don’t hesitate to contact our staff.
Future Colon Cancer Screenings
Depending on the results of your colonoscopy and biopsy, future testing and treatment may be required. Many patients are anxious about getting the results of their colonoscopies, however it’s important to remember that colon cancer is very treatable when detected early and removing colon polyps can prevent colon cancer from ever forming.

Can I drive after my colonoscopy?
A: Because you are still under the effects of sedation, you cannot drive after your colonoscopy. Our staff will tell you beforehand to arrange for a responsible adult to pick you up from our Beverly Hills surgery center.
Will I be in pain after the procedure?
A: You should not experience pain after your procedure, though mild discomfort and bloating may occur, but is typically short lived.
What happens if the GI doctor finds something?
A: If the gastroenterologist finds something abnormal during your colonoscopy, he or she may decide to do a biopsy of the tissue or polyp. Just because the GI doctor performs a biopsy does NOT mean you have colon cancer. Remember that colonoscopy is both a diagnostic and preventative measure, in that removing pre-cancerous polyps can actually help prevent the development of cancer.
Is there a chance of complications?
A: Complications after a colonoscopy are rare, and most patients feel fine after the procedure. However, be sure to alert your doctor if you experience bleeding, fever, abdominal pain, or vomiting.
When do I need another colonoscopy?
A: Your doctor is the best person to ask about when you will need a follow-up exam. There are many factors which your doctor will take into account when making this determination such as the number of polyps found, the type of polyps found, the size of polyps found, and any family history of colon cancer.
